LCD advertising display VS. LED advertising display

LCD is the abbreviation of liquid crystal display while LED is the abbreviation of light-emitting diodes.

LCD use LED backlit or fluorescent lights for the placement of light. While LED use diodes for the placement of light and provides a distinct and sharp picture.

We compare both types of digital signage as following:

1.Lifespan:  LCD with a shorter lifespan of around 60,000 hours, while LED lasts longer with a lifespan of around 100,000 hours.

2.Brightness: The brightness for indoor LCD is normally from 350nits to 500nits, for outdoor LCD is from 1000nits to 3000nits.

While the brightness for indoor LED is from 800nits to 1200nits, for outdoor LED is from 4500nits to 10,000nits; So normally LED advertising display is more suitable for outdoor because of higher brightness, and LCD advertising display is more suitable for indoor.

3.Size:  LCD comes in standard sizes and not easy to customize, the standard size is like from 10.1’’(217x136mm) to 110’’(2436.5x1370.5mm), although some have stretch sizes,

but most of the options are at a 16x9 aspect ratio. While the size of LED could be customized, it constitute of of many pcs of LED cabinets, so it is suitable for bigger size, thus it is more suitable for outdoor or big size, and LCD display is more suitable for indoor or small size.

4.Cost:  LED is more expensive than LCD, because LED is customized, while LCD production process is more standard, and size is standard, while but the price of LED is cheaper and cheaper than before.
